Grandma’s Ground Beef Chow Mein Casserole

Step 3: Add the Vegetables

Stir in the chopped vegetables and cook for a few minutes until they soften slightly.
The mix of textures — tender beef and crisp veggies — is what makes this casserole so special.

Step 4: Make the Creamy Sauce

In a separate bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk (or broth), and a splash of soy sauce.
Whisk until smooth and creamy — this will coat everything in rich, savory flavor once baked.

Step 5: Combine Everything

Once your beef and vegetables are cooked and the creamy sauce is ready, pour the sauce over the beef–vegetable mixture in the skillet.

Add the chow mein noodles and gently stir until everything is evenly coated with the creamy sauce.
Make sure the noodles are distributed throughout the mixture, but don’t overmix — you want them to stay a little distinct for texture.

Now your casserole is ready to go into the baking dish.

Step 6: Bake Until Golden

Transfer the beef–noodle mixture into a greased casserole dish. Sprinkle extra chow mein noodles on top for crunch.
Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20–25 minutes, or until the top is golden and the edges are bubbling.

Step 7: Rest and Set

Remove the casserole from the oven and let it rest for 5–10 minutes. This helps the sauce thicken slightly and makes serving cleaner and easier.

Step 8: Serve and Enjoy

Scoop generous portions onto plates and serve warm. This casserole pairs beautifully with a simple green salad or steamed rice. Every bite balances savory beef, tender veggies, creamy sauce, and those irresistible crispy noodles — just like grandma used to make.
