Southern Chocolate Cobbler Recipe
Ingredients:
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup milk
1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
For the Topping:
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 1/4 cups boiling water
Instructions:
Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking dish.
Mix the Batter: In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and cocoa powder. Stir in milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared baking dish.
Add the Topping: In a separate bowl, mix the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and cocoa powder. Sprinkle evenly over the batter.
Pour the Boiling Water: Gently pour 1 1/4 cups of boiling water over the batter and topping. Do not stir—this will create the gooey chocolate sauce as it bakes.
Bake: Place in the oven and bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the top is set but the bottom is still gooey.
Serve Warm: Let the cobbler sit for a few minutes before serving. Spoon into bowls, making sure to get both the cake and the gooey chocolate sauce from the bottom. Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream!
