Crockpot 4-Ingredient Cabbage and Potatoes
A simple, cozy slow cooker recipe made with humble ingredients and big comfort-food flavor. Tender cabbage, creamy potatoes, buttery richness, and savory broth come together in an easy side dish or satisfying vegetarian meal.
Ingredients
- 1 large head green cabbage, cut into thick chunks
- 2½ pounds Yukon Gold potatoes, washed and cut into chunks
- 4 tablespoons butter, sliced
- 1½ cups vegetable broth or chicken broth
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Optional Garnishes
- Fresh parsley
- Cracked black pepper
- Garlic powder
- Red pepper flakes
Instructions
1. Prepare the vegetables
Remove any damaged outer leaves from the cabbage. Cut into large wedges or chunks.
Wash the potatoes and cut them into evenly sized pieces so they cook at the same rate.
2. Layer in the crockpot
Place the potatoes in the bottom of the slow cooker.
Add the cabbage pieces on top.
Pour the broth evenly over the vegetables.
3. Add the butter
Place butter slices over the cabbage and potatoes. As it melts, it will create a rich, buttery sauce throughout the dish.
4. Slow cook
Cover and cook:
- LOW: 6–7 hours
- HIGH: 3–4 hours
Cook until the cabbage is tender and the potatoes are easily pierced with a fork.
5. Season and serve
Gently stir everything together.
Season with salt and pepper to taste. Add fresh parsley or extra cracked pepper if desired.
Serve warm.
Storage Instructions
Refrigerator:
Store cooled leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
Freezer:
Freeze in freezer-safe containers for up to 2 months. Potatoes may soften slightly after thawing.
Reheating:
Warm gently on the stovetop or microwave. Add a splash of broth if needed to restore moisture.
