Slow Cooker Amish Ham & Green Beans

🥔🥓 Simple • Hearty • Comfort Food

Serves: 4–6
Cook time: 6–8 hours (LOW)

Ingredients

  • 1–2 lbs ham hock, ham shank, or leftover diced ham
  • 1 lb fresh green beans, trimmed (or frozen green beans)
  • 4–5 medium potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 3–4 cups chicken broth or water
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • ½ tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 1 small onion, chopped (optional for extra flavor)

Instructions

1. Add everything to the slow cooker
Put the ham, green beans, and potatoes into the slow cooker.

2. Add liquid
Pour in the broth until ingredients are mostly covered.

3. Season
Add black pepper, garlic powder, and a little salt (go easy—ham is already salty).

4. Slow cook

  • LOW: 6–8 hours
    or
  • HIGH: 4–5 hours

Cook until the potatoes are tender and the ham falls apart.

5. Finish and serve
Remove ham bone (if using ham hock), shred the meat, and stir it back into the pot.

Serve hot with:

  • crusty bread
  • buttered rolls
  • cornbread

Tips

For richer flavor: Use smoked ham hock instead of plain ham.
For softer beans (Amish-style): Cook the full 8 hours on LOW.
Leftovers taste even better the next day.

This is classic comfort food—simple ingredients, little effort, and very filling. 🍲
